Opening of photo exhibition "Women and Conflict in Ukraine"

Every year on November 25 Ukraine joins the international community in conducting 16 Days Against Gender Violence campaignwhich lasts till December 10.

The campaign is aimed to raise awareness of gender violence as human rights violation and call to fight against gender based violence and impunity that causes spreading violence against women.

According to the questionnaire on occurrence of gender based violence conducted by UNFPA, 19,4% of women in Ukraine aged 15-49 experienced physical violence; 7,9% suffered from sexual violence, 68% of victims of violence haven't addressed for help. These data prove urgent necessity and importance to raise the level of awareness of gender based violence in Ukraine and implement coordinated action against it.

To join 16 Days Against Violence Campaign UN in Ukraine together with the Ministry of Social Policy and Ukrainian Women's Fund conduct the photo exhibition "Women and Conflict in Ukraine". Over 40 photos selected for the exhibition tell the stories of Ukrainian women, who perform different roles in hard times for Ukraine – they are women-soldiers, women-doctors, women-volunteers, etc.
